Answers

Frequently asked questions

Common queries and answers about the project budget template.

How do I work out the planned cost for a task?
Multiply the planned hours by the rate. So 10 hours at 50 per hour is a planned cost of 500. Type that number into the planned cost column and it adds into your budget total.
Why are the hours shown as decimals?
Rates are charged per decimal hour, not per hour and minute. So 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.5, and you can multiply it by a rate without any extra math.
Can I change the rate for each task?
Yes. Each row has its own rate, so a designer at one rate and a developer at another both fit on the same sheet. The planned cost column still totals to one budget.
Is my budget saved?
No. The grid lives in your browser and clears when you close the tab, so download the CSV before you leave. A free TimeTracker account keeps every project for you.
How do I compare the plan to what a project really costs?
This template covers the plan. TimeTracker logs the hours your team actually spends on each task, so you can put real cost next to planned cost and see where you are over or under.
